The Irish Gerontological society mission is to improve the experience of ageing through advocating and promoting excellence in issues and practices that are important to the well-being, health, support and care of older adults. Every year the IGS holds an Annual Scientific Meeting where they encourage, support and facilitate the exploration and dissemination of new ideas in research and education concerned with the physical, social, psychological and biological aspects of ageing.

This year DeCare’s  Wellness and Health Promotion Manager ‘David Casey’, received the Irish Gerontology Society’s 2017 Presidential Award at the The 65th Irish Gerontological Society Annual Conference . David had spent over two years of research in the area of oral health focusing on Dementia, Palliative Care and Gerontology. The program went on to be Nursing and Midwifery Board accredited and is now available across a range of healthcare settings.
