Dental Benefits for End Stage Renal Disease.

End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) has a negative effect on oral health, leading to an increase in dental cavities, gum disease, mouth infections, mouth ulcers, and bone loss. Mouth infections put further strain on the kidneys and can interfere with or even lead to cancellation of kidney transplant schedules. Frequent visits to the dental team are essential to maintain the highest possible level of oral hygiene and oral health for individuals with severe kidney disease.

Supervised brushing, flossing, and interdental cleaning are essential to minimise the risk of dental infections causing further kidney damage. Managing dry mouth with frequent sips of water or sugarless gum can help reduce dental cavities and gum disease. Staying proactive with your oral care and having additional preventive dental visits will ensure you remain connected with your dental team helping to minimise the impact of dental disease on your kidney health. Make sure you connect your dental team with your healthcare team looking after your kidney health.

New Benefit

Recognising the unique challenges faced by those with End Stage Renal Disease, DeCare is launching a new preventive dental benefit* for members with ESRD. Members on Healthy Smiles Level 3 and higher, and Team Care Level 2 and higher, will now receive an additional dental cleaning and topical fluoride treatment.

This extra care will help you maintain good oral health, prevent dental infections, keep you closely connected with your dental team, supporting both oral health and kidney health.
