DeCare supporting the Amchi Smiles Initiative

DeCare is proud to support this worthwhile initiative. The Amchi Smiles Initiative is an oral health project in Ladajk India, close to the borders of China and Pakistan.

The project is based on the WHO’s Fit for Schools programme focusing on the common risk factor of hygiene and using training in hand-washing and tooth-brushing to improve oral and general health.

The DeCare Oral Health team tailored the design of a two sided flashcard with the correct hand washing and tooth-brushing techniques specifically for this group of children based on the original WHO concept.

This programme was started in the Philippines where it led to a 50% reduction in school absence and communicable disease and a 40% reduction in tooth decay, all for a cost of only 70 US cents per child per year.

Well done to all Involved in this project.
